Rolex Submariner 5512 Matte Meters First 4-Line Dial - 1967

One of our favourite series in the long line of Submariners, the 5512 embodies all that is great about vintage Subs. It was the first to feature crown guards, and really was the beginning of the design aesthetic we see in Subs of today.

The 5512 also featured a COSC certified 1570 movement, unlike the 5513 which was not certified, and therefore cheaper at the time.

This particular example hails from circa-1967 and features an original matte, meters first 4-line dial which is in fantastic condition. The lume plots have taken on a creamy patina. There is some partial lume loss on the 12 o’clock marker. Hands have been relumed to match the dial.

The case is nicely preserved. Has been polished, but retains thick lugs and nice finishing.

The bezel is a period correct long 5, and is in excellent condition.

Caseback is original, stamped 5513 and dated ‘67. A 5512 with 5513 caseback is not unusual, and were supplied new in this configuration.

Comes equipped on a ColaReb Italian handmade leather strap.

Serviced by Woods Watchmaking in 2019, who is one of the best watchmakers in Oz. Winds very smoothly and is currently keeping COSC time.

No box, papers or bracelet.
