Universal Geneve Compax 18K YG 184.450

Universal Geneve are famous for creating some of the greatest vintage pieces ever made. What most folks don’t realise is that they were still creating pieces all the way through the 90’s. Technically they’re still in existence now, though have not produced a watch for some time that we’re aware of which is a great shame for a once great brand.

What we have here is one of the pieces made during the 90’s, known just as the Compax and carrying a reference number of 184.450. Limited to 100 pieces, it features classic UG proportions with a 35mm yellow gold case, housing a three register chronograph dial in off white with brown subdials reminiscent of a tropical dial. The hands and applied markers are also in yellow gold, and it’s powered by a Lemania 1873 manually wound chronograph movement.

This particular example presents in TZ good condition. The yellow gold case shows some light scratches and a very small pin dent on the left side of the case. The bottom of the upper right lug has a ding, and the rear of the lugs show marks from strap changes. There’s also some light oxidisation between the crown and upper pusher. Currently mounted on a beautiful Colareb Bologna 19mm Calf Leather strap in blue with gold tone buckle, it also comes with the original ‘gator strap with gold plated UG buckle, and a second black UG strap with damaged keepers.

Apparently serviced in the past few years by a previous owner, it’s running beautifully. Keeping COSC time, winds smoothly, chrono stops and starts as it should.

These don't pop up too often, and prices are on the rise. Get it while you can.
