Universal Geneve Tri-Compax Chronograph 22279 - 1945

Universal Geneve created some absolutely spectacular, innovative and beautiful watches in the early to mid 20th century, and the Tri-Compax series is perhaps their most well known line.

The Tri-Compax models date back to 1944, where Universal Geneve presented it at Baselworld to celebrate it’s 50th anniversary. While sometimes considered a vintage dress piece these days, it was absolutely a tool watch back when it was released, and packed a whole lot of horological-punch.

This particular example dates to circa-1945, so very early in production. The original dial shows patina and features day, date, month, moonphase, and 12 hour chronograph.

The stainless steel 34.5mm straight-lug case is in fantastic condition. Has had a polish in the past, but remains very thick ad well finished. Caseback has deep and clear

Hand have been replaced with luminova items.

It is powered by the in-house calibre 481 manual-wind chronograph movement that is running very well. Timed at around +11 secs per day at 276 degrees of amplitude. Chrono stops, starts and resets as it should. Date, month and moonphase correctors all operational.

Service history unknown, but there is a marking in the caseback with 11.15 so assuming it may have had some attention then.

Strap that it is currently mounted on has seen better days and is coming apart at the tongue.
