Eterna Matic Kontiki Super

In 1947 Thor Heyerdahl sailed on a raft expedition known as Kon-Tiki to prove that Polynesia had been established by mankind traveling from South America rather than Central Asia. On the head guides wrist was an Eterna, and the name Kontiki was adopted moving forward for its dive watch.

This particular example is known as the Eterna Matic Kontiki Super and dates from the 60's. The steel case measures in at 40mm, and shows marks and scratches commensurate with age, but remains very thick with clearly defined facets.

The black dial is in nice condition, with some tritium burns and mottling present around the markers and throughout the dial. Markers are tritium, with the outer track glowing brightly under UV then falling off rapidly. The main markers do not glow, and while mostly intact do show some wear. The stick hands glow brighter, and fade slowly compared with the dial

Plexi is in good condition, and shows only light marks. Bezel shows a lovely patina, and rotates bi-directionally.

Was serviced by Nuttings Clock and Watch Repairs around 5 years ago. Runs very well, winds smoothly, and appears to be keeping time within +15 secs per day.
