This watch needs little introduction in the world of Haute Horlogerie.

Introduced in 1986, the 3940 is considered to be one of the most important watches in Patek Philippe’s history. It, along with the reference 3970 which was released concurrently, had the honour of being the first serially produced perpetual calendars made by Patek Philippe.

It is also purportedly the watch worn by Philippe Stern. If he has the choice of any Patek ever made and chooses this one, it goes a little way into showing just how truly special this watch is.

It features an 18K yellow gold case, with matte silver opaline dial. The solid, round, polished case has a stepped bezel with straight lugs. The month and leap year are displayed on a sub dial at 3 o'clock. The date and moon phase sub dial is at 6 o'clock, with the day and 24-hour time at 9.

It has a matte silver dial with applied yellow gold hands and baton hour markers, and exterior dot minute indexes. Cross-hair on the month sub dial at 3 unique to the series 3 of 3940’s.
