Universal Genève Uni-Compax Chronograph Ref. 32416 signed by Türler

Universal Geneve created some absolutely spectacular, innovative and beautiful watches in the early to mid 20th century, and are revered amongst vintage collectors for very good reason.

This particular reference is known as the 32416, a Uni-Compax Chronograph form the 50's. In Universal Geneve speak, 'Uni-Compax' refers to the complications, and thus indicates just the one here rather than perhaps omse of the more commonly associated Tri-Compax models associated with the brand. It utilises what was a Jumbo size case for its day, measuring in at 37mm. With it's thin bezel, it wears a mm or so bigger than that on the wrist in our opinion. The off white dial houses a recessed sub-seconds at 9, and 45 minute counter at 3, with applied markers and blued outer tachymetre scale. It's powered by the lovely in-house hand-wound, column-wheel operated chronograph movement.

This particular example dates to circa-1952. The original dial shows patina throughout, but has aged in a lovely way with the wear being quite uniform. The outer edges show some heavier scratching. This dial is particularly special as it's double-signed by Türler, a famed Zurich-based retailer. Very cool, and highly desirable.

Case is very strong, with even lugs and clear lines. Chrome plating has been damaged in places, predominantly on the left side which we'd assume is from having the case back opened and the tool slipping over the years. Case back is in great condiiton, with clear serial number and reference number, and hallmarks on the inside.

Service history is unknown, but winds beautifully, Chrono operates as it should, and keeping time at around +10 secs a day at high 200's amplitude. Those sorts of numbers would inidicate it has had some attention in the not so distant past.

Mounted to an aftermarket leather strap on tang buckle.
