Grand Seiko Elegance 20th Anniversary SBGY003 Limited Edition - 2019

Could the Grand Seiko SBGY003 be the greatest Grand Seiko released up until this point? We think that you could definitely put the argument forward.

Released in 2019 as a part of a limited celebratory collection for the 20th anniversary of the Spring Drive movement, the SBGY003 utilises a manually-wound version of the innovative movement that has made Grand Seiko famous the world over. This allows the case to come in at a slender 10.2mm, and with it measuring in at 38.5mm across it is in the goldilocks zone for most wrists. The proportions are phenomenal, with the curvature of the case and lugs that seem to wrap around the bezel making for an almost-cushion shaped case that feels very organic on the wrist.

While we think the case is the star of the show, the dial is equally as breathtaking with its ultra-deep radial sunray finish. Pictures don’t do the depth of this dial justice, in person it’s even better. The lack of clutter on the dial, along with the Zaratsu polished hands, and the blued seconds hand sweeping around the dial in the way only a spring drive equipped movement does, means it is absolutely captivating every time you look down at your wrist.

As always, finishing is absolutely superb and it’s all topped off with the fantastic ‘gator strap on steel deployant.

This particular example was sold new in October 2019 and presents in TZ Excellent condition. The case shows only a few light swirlies, some strap change marks on the rear of the lugs, and a very small mark on the left side of the case. Please see images for full condition details.
