Heuer Carrera Automatic Ref. 1553N Vintage Chronograph

We’re big fans of vintage Carrera’s here at WV HQ, and this particular version is a favourite of ours. Known as the 1553, it was offered in several dial variations and the one we have here is the uncommon and much sought-after deep blue dial, which is signified by an N in the reference number making this a 1553N.

The super-cool and very 70’s tonneau-shaped case is made of steel, and measures in at 38.5mm. Finishing is very strong, and shows only light wear for its age. There’s a few small dings on the case and bezel as you’d expect of a 50 year old watch, but overall very clean indeed.

The original dial is resplendent in it's deep blue colourway, featuring horizontal brushing and an almost satin finish, and is in superb condition. Tritium plots are all present, and show little degradation. There are a few small scratches and some tritium burn around the markers but overall excellent condition. Original hands are present and also in wonderful condition, including that iconic orange chrono hand.

Powering it is an automatic Heuer Cal. 15 movement. We're unsure of the exact service history, but it does have a case back sticker in place which would indicate to us it's had some attention at some point in the not so distant past. Chrono starting, stopping and resetting as it should, and is keeping time at about -16 secs per day at mid-200's amplitude.

It’s mounted to an aftermarket leather racing strap with aftermarket steel buckle.

This is an absolutely spectacular example of an increasingly sought-after vintage Heuer. They don’t come much better.
