Laine Gelidus 2

A darling of the Indie world, Finnish-born Master Watchmaker Torsten Laine’s eponymous brand has been creating stunning pieces since 2016.

Known for their lovely hand finished movement and amazing in-house dials, this particular piece is known as the Gelidus 2. The word Gelidus means ice-cold and frosty in Latin, referencing the frosting used in decoration of the hands and movement, and this being the Gelidus 2 it now features AR coated crystals, new dial design and new hands in comparison with the Gelidus 1.

The case is made of stainless steel and measures in at 40.5mm, with a 49.5mm lug-to-lug measurement and presents in superb condition with only hairlines and light scratches visible.

While the case is undoubtedly superb, the real magic of Laine lies in the dial and movement. The watch was originally delivered with a salmon frosted dial. The current owner then commissioned Laine to create a custom hand-turned guilloche salmon dial with three different finishes usually seen on the more expensive dial option on the Gelidus 3. It’s topped with steel hands to compliment the white gold Arabic numerals. The original dial is also included with the watch, along with another set of blued hands so the new owner can choose which they prefer, or alternate between them when they’d like to change the look up.

The hand-wound LA18.1 movement features hardened and tempered steel bridges for balance wheel and for escapement wheel, and is finished to a very high level.

Originally purchased in October 2019, it includes outer box, inner box, original dial, original hands, warranty card dated October 2019 and Watch Vault cleaning cloth.
